The Prom is the story of a lesbian who is excluded from her prom because she wants to proudly take her girlfriend and the fight for her right to do so. With several appealing plot lines, not only is the girl in a fight for LGBTQ rights, but four older Broadway stars decide to join in and help, but they simply are doing so for the publicity. Fans are already thrilled by the musical’s casting and Deadline reports that each actor and actress was Murphy’s first choice. It is unclear how far or if Ryan Murphy will stray from the original plot.
Making this movie for Netflix and giving it a theatrical release is a groundbreaking move for streaming services and Ryan Murphy is heading into what could be career-defining and changing territory for the writer, director, and producer.
